Product Design Lead

Bauer Media were launching the new Rayo brand umbrella and App that seeks to bring listeners back from Spotify and points towards a “New Radio” Experience. I worked on a rapid 6-week project to define the future state of the web offering. I worked alongside a product strategist, and we defined the problem through various methods of research including 15 stakeholder interviews in 4 days! We formed hypotheses, mapped user flows, and I designed a concept that we user tested.

Balancing the needs of business and users

We found that users were very set in their ways and focused on specific radio stations. They had an interest in competitions but were less bothered about browsing the news while listening. From a business perspective, advertising revenue placed constraints on the functionality of the player interface and dictated the need for it to work in-page.

Balancing feedback from users with the data from our stakeholders I designed a more focused radio listening experience that aggregate content based on users listening habits. I made it easier for the user to find their favourites shows and the music they loved, while also allowing the business to cross pollinate different areas of the web experience, such as competitions and breaking news. I crafted key user flows to create a near-future vision that we successfully presented back to senior stakeholders within Bauer Media.
